The Kenya’s Fisheries sub-sector has the potential to significantly contribute to the national economy through employment creation, foreign exchange earnings, poverty reduction and food security support. The annual fish production in Kenya is approximately 200,000 metric tons earning the fishers over Kshs. 7 billion (approximately US$ 90 million). The common nature of the natural fisheries resources renders it vulnerable to mismanagement because they are open to use by everyone and, therefore, not looked after by anyone.
