A child refers to a human being below the age of 18. The International Labour Conference has set a target date for the elimination of worst forms of child labour by 2016 and the elimination of child labour by 2020. Statistics say that the number of child labourers in various sectors has fallen. The progress has been significant in Latin America but less impressive in Asia and the Pacific. This note looks at how child labour is defined in various countries, elimination of child labour, child labour in the fisheries sector in various countries and what they do as well as the average age of such labour in various countries, the demand- and supply-side interventions in combating child labour in fisheries and aquaculture and criteria to address employment of children and child labour.
