A total of 13 fishermen are feared drowned after their trawler sank off the southern Tunisian town of Zarzis in a poor weather condition, Shems FM reported on Monday, quoting the local governor.

The trawler’s wreckage was found on the seabed at a depth of 70 meters early Sunday, the governor said, adding that the 13 fishermen onboard are still unaccounted for.

A team of scuba divers has been sent to search for the fishermen.

In one of the country’s worst fishing accidents, the trawler left the port of Sfax on Wednesday and never came back, prompting a search and rescue operation engaging naval units and a helicopter.
