Polakampadu Fishermen Co-operative Society has urged the state government to withdraw it order asking its members to vacate from Padavala Revu at Seethanagaram to operate the water lifting works of Kondaveedu Vagu. The members of the society said over 900 fishermen families have no other place to go. “The Irrigation department has ordered us to vacate the place over a month ago. We have written letters to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma and also to the Minister of BC Welfare, Kollu Ravindra regarding the orders. They listened to our plight, but in vain. This is the only place where we can live as fishermen. Earlier, officials have assured us that they would implement welfare schemes for the fishermen community here. Now, the same officials are throwing us away, said S V Narayana, president of the co-operative society. The members of the society urged the officials to take back their orders and stop the water lifting works at Kondaveedu Vagu. They alleged that the department officials were least bothered about their lives and they didn’t even provide any compensation to them.
