Six fishermen were arrested for fishing and two people were arrested for catching crabs in the sanctuary in West Sundarbans under Satkhira range yesterday. The detainees are Anwar Hossain, Jakir Hossain, Nazrul Mollah, Abdur Razzak Faraji, Abu Zafor, Abdul Hannan, Mohammad Oziar Mollah and Shamim Mohammad Abul Kashem from different villages of Patuakhali. Members of Sundarbans Smart Patrol team arrested them in a drive at Mandarbaria sanctuary in the Malancha river and Maitta canal and also seized their fishing trawler, fishing nets and a large quantity of fishing hooks. Nazrul Islam, leader of Sundarbans Smart Patrol team, and officials of Koikhali Station of the Forest Department said they raided the area at 4:30am and arrested the six fishermen. Another two were detained at 5:00am while they were catching crabs during breeding time. Nazrul filed a case against the arrestees under the Forest Act.
