Three more people who had sustained burn injuries in a fire after a gas cylinder explosion on a fishing trawler on the Nuniachara coast in Cox’s Bazar on Friday died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Tuesday.
The deceased were Rahim Ullah, 30, Arman, 22, and Shaheen, 35. With this the death toll from the blast reached 5. Brig General Shamim Ahsan, director of CMCH, said Ramin Ullah had been undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the hospital with 90% burns, while Arman and Shaheen had received 70% and 60% burns, respectively.
The respiratory tracts of the deceased were affected due to the fire. Earlier, on Friday, 12 fishermen suffered burn injuries after the explosion. Of the injured, two fishermen were sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
And the rest of the injured, with 60-90% burns, were sent to CMCH. Two of the victims–Osman Goni and Ayub Ali–succumbed to their injuries at the hospital on September 3 and September 2, respectively.
