A discussion meeting on nutrition was held in Kalapara’s South Musulliabad village on Wednesday afternoon with the participation of women fisherfolk to increase awareness about the production of nutritious and diverse food.

Sixty fisherfolk women took part in the meeting, which was arranged on the occasion of the National Nutrition Week with the theme ‘Build Smart Bangladesh, Eat Food Nutritionally’.

Sagarika Smriti, associate researcher of Patuakhali Ecophys, was present as the chief guest at the event.

Although these coastal fisherwomen collect fish throughout the year, they and the children of the fishermen’s families suffer from malnutrition.

Therefore, to make them aware of their daily nutritious food, the Worldfish Ecofish-II project organised this meeting in the remote fishermen village. In the meeting, healthy food plates and nutrition awareness booklets were distributed among fisherwomen on the occasion of the Nutrition Week.
