A fishing boat sank after colliding with a sand carrier off the coast of Gyeongju, southeast South Korea, leaving six of its crew members in cardiac arrest, Yonhap news agency reported on Monday, citing the South Korean Coast Guard.

The vessel capsized shortly after the collision, which occurred about 6 km southeast of Gyeongju at 5:43 a.m. local time (2043 GMT, Dec. 8).

The fishing boat is believed to have eight people aboard, with two crew members possibly missing.

In response, the police have dispatched rescue ships and helicopters to assist with the operation.
