The government is offering $1,870 million for the funding of projects which study a selection of fisheries and areas of small-scale aquaculture in regions VI and XIV, among others.

The government is open to receiving research proposals until the 21 August.

SUBPESCA, through the Fund for Fisheries Research and Aquaculture, FIP, will then share the fund between 14 fisheries and aquaculture projects.

According to Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Pablo Galilea: “Strengthening research is key to improving the state of fisheries and that’s one of the challenges that has been incorporated into the new fisheries law.”

The fisheries projects will be focused on anchovy, sardine, pomfret, cusk, stripe kite and thorny skate.

All projects are available on the website of the IFJ, www.fip.cl and will be open until 21 August 2013.
