Do you fancy yourself a bit of a fisherman? If so you may want to reconsider that answer after reading this story.

Meet the fishermen who caught two swordfish one weighing in at 200kg and another at 310kg.

These men caught the two swordfish in the Yellow Sea, off the coast of the city of Qingdao in China’s eastern Shandong Province.

The 4.1m -long fish is thought to have swam into the fishermen’s nets while chasing down smaller fish.

The men behind this catch believe it is the largest swordfish ever caught in the Yellow Sea and the world- this has not yet been verified.

They put the two swordfish on sale at a fish market this week, with potential earnings of £10.15 per kilogram.

However, a one-off offer from a fishmonger named Shi Donglei changed their minds. Donglei bought the larger fish for £1,930, at around £6.10 per kg.

Experts have warned that to eat this swordfish could be potentially life-threatening due to the levels of highly toxic methylmercury it may contain.

As an apex predators, swordfish can accumulate a number of harmful toxins as they eat through the food chain, taking toxins from their victims into their own bodies.

So can your best catches on the local fishing pond compete with these beasts of the deep?
