While fishing tuna in the Truong Sa (Spratly) waters, some fishermen from the central province of Phu Yen rescued four Filipinos in distress at sea.

At 1.15pm on February 5, the fishing vessel PY-90144TS controlled by Captain Luong Cong Xuyen, from Phu Dong Ward, Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen province docked in the fishing port of Ward 6, Tuy Hoa city, with the four Filipinos.

Xuyen said his boat departed on January 13. Ten days later, while fishing tuna in the waters of Truong Sa district, Khanh Hoa province, he discovered a sunken fishing boat with four foreign fishermen on board, who were in a state of exhaustion.

After being rescued and provided with food, the four foreign fishermen recovered. They said they are Filipino. The captain of the sunken ship, Mr. Fancisco M. Romillo, 62, said that they were adrift at sea almost four days before they were rescued by Vietnamese fishermen.

“We were rescued and intensively cared by Vietnamese fishermen,” he said.

After being brought ashore, the four foreign victims were examined by doctors of Tuy Hoa hospital. They now live at the quarters of the Border Guard forces of Phu Yen province, waiting for being sent home.
