Ghana’s Deputy Central Regional Minister, Mrs Queenster Pokuah Sawyer, has urged fishermen to stop using light for fishing because it could affect the industry.

Mrs Sawyer said this at a durbar to mark the Annual Akwambo festival of chief and people of Apam Traditional Area at Apam on Sunday.

She said the government was making arrangements to distribute more outboard motors and fishing nets to fishermen next year.

The District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, called on the people in the area to use money spent during festivals to provide some of their basic needs.

He urged the youth to desist from taking to alcoholism and sexual promiscuity and take their studies seriously.

Mr Aidoo-Mensah appealed to chiefs in the area to assist the District Assembly to name the streets after prominent people who had contributed to the development of the area.
