The government is right in its decision to ban light emitting diode (LED) fishing in Goa, said MLA Rajendra Arlekar. “Fish are also a part of our biodiversity and are at threat because of the use of LEDs. We are worried that some species might drop in numbers because many a times fish that come to the shore for breeding are attracted to lights. If they caught in the high seas, they might not come to the shore to lay eggs. The government has rightly taken the decision to ban the use of LEDs,” he said.
