Villagers of Barcem and Khola are up in arms against the proposed Fish meal plant at Paryemol, Barcem. Zilla Panchayat member of Barcem Khushali Velip, along with Sarpanch of Barcem Village Panchayat Arjun Velip, Sarpanch of Khola Village panchayat Narayan Velip and about hundred odd villagers, on August 29, had prohibited the officers of Goa Pollution Control Board and others to enter in the proposed site and conduct an inspection. ZP member Khushali Velip told media that this industrialist with government support has ruined the city life by setting polluting plants. “Now they want to ruin our village life. We want allow this to happen. We will oppose the project tooth and nail and will not allow this polluting plant to be set up in our village, said Velip. Narayan Velip Sarpanch of Khola said that he, along with the villagers of Khola, will not allow Fish meal plant to come in the village. “We are struggling to get essential necessities but government does not bother about us. How come they can decide to allow a polluting unit to set up in our village, questioned Narayan Velip. GPCB office Mr Mohan Girap told media that he had visited this site for inspection on the order from member secretary. “We have to see the feasibility report and then have to act upon it. One Mr. Ibrahim was also present along with the GPCB officers. Villagers warned Ibrahim and others present not to dare to enter in the proposed site. Villagers also appealed government not to allow Fish meal plant in this area.
