Minister for fisheries Vinod Palyekar inspected the floating jetty built by Goa state infrastructure development corporation on Thursday and voiced his interest in setting up such jetties across Goa for fishermen. Palyekar visited the Old Goa floating jetty along with GSIDC vice-chairman Sidharth Kuncalienkar to study the functioning and construction methodology of the jetty. GSIDC has built a hybrid jetty which connects a floating pontoon to a concrete pier. Terming the jetty as “cost effective” Palyekar sought GSIDC’s support in providing “better berthing facilities for fishermen” of the state. The old Goa jetty has been built at a cost of Rs 16 crore.
