Indian fishers continued to engage in illegal fishing in Sri Lankan waters in spite of regular arrests of poaching trawlers, a senior Navy official said. The latest arrests had been made off Point Pedro on Saturday night (09), the official said. “We held two trawlers along with 25 fishers,” the spokesperson said .

The Indian fishermen and trawlers taken into custody were brought to the Kankesanthurai harbour and handed over to the Mailadi Fisheries Inspector to further action.According to the official, so far this year SLN patrols had taken 33 poaching trawlers into custody along with 220 fishermen.
