Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, together with MODCOM and NIMO Construction Companies faced the Parliamentary Committee on Fisheries and Marine Resources on Wednesday 5th June 2013 to answer to questions relating to the delay in the construction of Jetties at Shenge, Tombo and Goderich.
At the meeting, it came out clearly that the Committee is very much disappointed over misleading reports’ submitted to the committee by the two contractors.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Veronica Sesay and other members of Committee expressed dismay over the manner in which the contractors have so far handled the construction projects.
The projects in question, it has been learnt, were supposed to have been completed and handed over to the ministry long before now.
The Committee Chairman disclosed to this newspaper that the Committee recently embarked on a conducted tour of the said projects and expressed shock over what the Committee noticed.
However, Hon. Komba Koedoyoma has urged the ministry to strengthen its relationship with contractors in the use of government resources.
He said ministry officials should also ensure that they do accordingly monitor contractors so as to enhance quality and timeliness in projects.
