A reported UN arbitration court ruling that Italian marine Salvatorre Girone, accused in the Enrica Lexie shooting case, should be allowed to return to Italy, has triggered protests. India should fight any move to allow the marine to return home, National Fish workers’ Forum (NFF) said here on Monday. An Italian news agency ANSA report claimed on Monday that the UN’s Permanent Court of Arbitration has ruled that Girone be allowed to return until the arbitration proceedings are over. However, the ruling is to be published only on Tuesday. ’We are deeply dissatisfied with such a ruling. The government should take steps to prevent the Italian marine’s return. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should raise this issue on international platforms. Our MPs should take it up in the Parliament,” NFF national secretary T Peter said. Girone was one of two marines on the tanker Enrica Lexie arrested for shooting and killing two fishermen in 2012 off Kerala coast. Massimiliano Latorre, the other marine, was allowed to return to Italy after he suffered a stroke in 2014.
