A software application will now be able to provide details of fish diseases. Developed with the help of city based ICAR NBFGR, the app was dedicated to the people in 12 languages by Prof SP Singh Baghel, newly appointed Union minister of state for fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying and Panchayati Raj here on Wednesday.

The minister also reviewed the institute’s progress and interacted with staff. An official statement issued by the institute noted that director Dr Uttam Kumar Sarkar presented a comprehensive overview of ICAR-NBFGR’s progress, including transformative activities, efforts and achievements for the conservation, development, and management of aquatic genetic resources of the country.

Sharing details about the app, Dr Sarkar said: “Called ‘ReportFishDisease’, the app will allow fish farmers and stake holders in different parts of India to flag diseases of the fish in their local language as it had 12 regional language option.”

He urged the establishment of a centre of excellence for fish health management in the institute. Meanwhile, the minister visited the Ganga Aquarium and appreciated the institute’s efforts toward unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the fisheries sector and the conservation of valuable aquatic genetic resources, including its focused approach to achieving the 100-day targets. Baghel also emphasized putting collective efforts towards achieving the goals of Viksit Bharat.
