The Indian Foreign Ministry on Monday summoned Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner Mansoor Ahmad Khan and handed him a strong protest over the killing of an Indian fisherman allegedly by Pakistani forces off the coast of India’s eastern state of Gujrat.
“It was conveyed to him (Khan) that the Government of India condemns the incident of indiscriminate firing on unarmed Indian fishermen by a vessel of the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency near the Indo-Pakistan international maritime boundary line on October 11, 2013, which led to the death of an Indian fishermen,” Syed Akbaruddin, the Ministry’s spokesman, told media.
“The Pakistani deputy high commissioner was informed that it is of great concern that an incident of this nature has taken place amidst the stated desire by Pakistan for peaceful, friendly and cooperative ties with India,” he said. He further said that India demanded from Pakistan to investigate the incident and share the findings with them at earliest.
According to reports, Indian fisherman identified as Naran Bhai Sosa was killed allegedly by Pakistan forces in the shooting incident while he was fishing in sea on Saturday. It was also reported that his 30 more colleagues accompanying him were arrested by the Pakistan maritime forces.
