Fisheries Minister Pramod Madhwaraj met seven survivors of the recent boat accident who are under treatment at Government Hospital in Bhatkal, on Friday, according to a report here on Monday. He also arranged for a helicopter to look for the body of fisherman Manjunath Kharvi and declared a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh for his family. Manjunath has been missing since Wednesday, when the boat with eight fishermen sunk in the Arabian Sea. Revised compensation amount Mr. Madhwaraj assured the fishermen that life jackets would be provided to them by the Department of Fisheries soon. Henceforth, if any accidents took place at sea, a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh would be given to families of the victims. The amount was Rs. 2 lakh earlier. According to the report, Coastal Guard commander Mukesh Sharma said that a helicopter and three coastguard boats were still looking for the body of the missing fisherman and the search would continue.
