The Karnataka State Co-operative Fisheries Federation (KSCFF) has announced plans to open about 50 fish stalls in six districts bordering Andhra Pradesh. It will open its stalls in Ballari, Kalaburgi, Koppal, Raichur, Yadgir and Bidar districts, where fish would be brought from Mysuru. KSCFF chairman S Madegowda told TOI there was high demand from people of Hyderabad-Karnataka re gion over the years for the service. “So we have decided to set up stalls in these districts and supply fresh fish. Initially we will set up 50 stalls by the end of this year. More stalls will be set up later”, he said. The federation, which has its head office in the city, has activities primarily in south Karnataka, with 116 stalls – 42 in Mysuru city, 23 in Mysuru rural, 3 in Chamarajanagar, 14 in Kodagu, 9 in Mandya, 5 in Hassan, 3 in Ramanagar and 17 in Bengaluru. It purchases fish from societies, and also from other states through tender, before distributing them to its stalls. About 276 societies in the state, including 15 SC/ST and 26 women societies have membership with the federation. There federation has seen fluctuations in its sales profit recently. While profit was just Rs 16.23 lakh in 2012-13 and Rs 9.32 lakh in 2013-14, it saw a boom in sales following the introduction of live fish and launch of ten new products such as fish steaks, fillets, pickles, samosa, chutney powder, burger, noodles and others products made of fish. It helped profit shoot to Rs 40.30 lakh in 2014-15 and Rs 41.51 lakh in 2015-16.
