Pramod Madhwraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Services and Sports, has urged Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, to release the balance amount of Central assistance for fisheries harbour projects in the State. A press release issued here on Friday said Mr. Madhwaraj had met Mr. Singh at Krishi Bhavan in New Delhi on September 22 and presented a list of demands to him. He urged the Union Minister to retain the earlier Central assistance pattern of 75:25 for funding infrastructure projects. He also requested Mr. Singh to organise a conference of Fisheries Ministers of coastal States to evolve uniform policies for sustainable development of marine fisheries. This conference could be held in Bengaluru in November or December, he suggested. After a detailed discussion, Mr. Singh agreed to examine the issues and take action accordingly. Devendra Chaudhary, Secretary, Union Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, S.R. Umashankar, Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, H.S. Veerappa Gowda, Director of Fisheries, and C.K. Murthy, Joint Director of Fisheries, were present at the meeting, the release said.
