Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Services and Sports Pramod Madhwaraj has said that the State government has granted Rs. 24.1 crore for various development works under different schemes in Udupi Assembly constituency. Addressing presspersons here recently, Mr. Madhwaraj said that some of the development works which will be taken up with this amount are construction of Timmanna Kudru Bridge (Rs. 5 crore), Pas Kudru Bridge (Rs. 4 crore), widening of Ambagilu-Manipal-Udyavar Road (Rs. 5 crore), construction of duct and divider for Ambagilu-Manipal-Udyavar Road (Rs. 1 crore), widening of Kenjur-Nalkur Road (Rs. 2 crore), Aroor-Kolalagiri Road development (Rs. 2 crore), and Brahmavar-Jannady road development (Rs. 2 crore). The State government is paying subsidy for diesel of fishermen directly to their bank accounts. But the Union government has increased the diesel fare and hence, the subsidy amount too has to be increased from Rs. 7 to Rs. 9 per litre. Though in the Budget, the government earmarked Rs. 100 crore for subsidy on diesel procured by the fishermen, this was not enough owing to increase in diesel price, he said. He has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to provide Rs. 33 crore more to cover the subsidy. Mr. Siddaramaiah has provided Rs. 20 crore. Hence, a total of Rs. 120 crore has been provided by the government to provide subsidised diesel to the fishermen, he said.
