This workshop will be very useful. The consumption of fish has increased. There is great demand for fish in restaurants. There is good demand for value-added fish products,” said Mahesh Kumar, general manager of Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation, Mangaluru.

He was speaking at the College of Fisheries in Yekkur during a workshop held here on Thursday July 2.

He further said, “This workshop is to create awareness on how value-added fish products will help the fishermen.”

S R Somashekar, assistant extension director College of Fisheries said, “Fish has the highest protein. In the world, 178 crore tons of fish is been produced. Fish is exported to Asia, Europe, and Africa. Now, only 20 percent of value-added fish products is being produced. The value-added fish products will be commercial businesses in the future and it will help fishermen”.
