The awards instituted by Kerala Fishermen’s Welfare Fund Board,(KFWFB) for the students of fishermen community who excelled in studies will be distributed on Friday. The function will be held at Ernakulam Town Hall and inaugurated by Fisheries Minister J Mercykutty Amma. The awards to the students are a part of the 30 projects that are being implemented by the Fishermen Welfare Board fort the fisher folks. The students who scored high marks in SSLC, Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary School exams will be given cash award and merit certificates. The students who participated in athletics and games in the state and national level competitions will also be given cash awards. For education awards, 601 students have been already selected while under the sports section, awards will be distributed to 635 students. Under educational awards, a total of Rs 25.23 lakh will be distributed among the winners while for sports section, Rs 1.38 lakh has been set aside. Hibi Eden MLA will preside over the function. Mayor Soumini Jain, K V Thomas MP, MLAs S Sarma, M Swaraj, K J Maxi, John Fernandez, district panchayat president Asha Sanal, Matsyafed chairman V Dinakaran and fisheries director S Karthikeyan will also attend the function.
