A late night fire breakout at the Chaliyam fish landing centre kept Fire and Rescue Services personnel on their toes on Sunday. Around six thatched sheds near the fish landing centre were gutted in the incident. Fire and Rescue Service officials at Meenchanda station said they got the distress call around 9.45 p.m. Three units of fire fighters were sent to the spot from the station, they added. More fire tenders were later pressed into service from the Beach station. Fishermen from the spot too joined the rescue operations. Though no fishing boats were gutted, some goods-carriers parked at the spot were damaged in the incident. The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained.
