The Kerala State Cooperative Federation for Fisheries Development (Matsyafed) has cancelled 15 permits for white kerosene issued to nine fishermen from the kerosene bunk at Marianad in Thiruvananthapuram district. A press note issued here said the permits were cancelled following instances of misuse of the kerosene given for fishing purposes alone. Misuse was detected in a few of the 19,000-plus permits issued to fishermen in two phases. The white kerosene given for fishing should be used only for that purpose and the fishermen are expected to procure the kerosene on time. The bill for the kerosene procured should be kept safely for subsequent inspection by agencies, including the police. An offence The owner of the permit should procure the kerosene in person from the bunk. The unauthorised storage of white kerosene is an offence, the press note said.
