The World Fisheries Day celebration and Sea Rights Declaration will take place on Nov 21, emphasizing the slogan ‘The sea and its resources belong to the coastal community.’
The event is jointly organized by the Coastal Students Cultural Forum and Kerala Independent Fish Workers Federation on Thursday at 3pm at Puthiyathura beach. The celebration will feature a series of engaging activities, including Chelalikkoottam, a gathering of senior fishermen and students from the coastal area, and Kattamarakkaviarang, a discussion with sea writers.
Other highlights include a photo and video exhibition exploring the seabed, Samarakatha, recounting coastal struggles, a women’s fish workers’ gathering, the Sea Rights Declaration, and a special sea film screening. The organizing committee, represented by general convener Adimalathura D Christudas and programme coordinator Vipin Das Thottampurayidam, announced that the event aims to celebrate the cultural and historical ties of the coastal community while addressing their rights and challenges.
