The Janata Dal (United) unit of Lakshadweep has demanded that the authorities release the amount due to the fishing community for dried tuna procured by the Lakshadweep Cooperative and Marketing Federation (LCMF) from different isles several months ago. Stored in godowns In a statement here on Thursday, JD(U) national executive committee member Mohammed Sadique said the dried tuna collected from the fishermen five months ago were still stored in the godown of LCMF and a private godown in Beypore. A sum of Rs. 625 per kg for first quality dried tuna and Rs. 515 for second quality had been offered to the fishermen. But the pending amount had not been handed over to the fishermen who desperately required the money for meeting expenses such as repairing of boats, he said.
