Taking into consideration that there is a huge scope for freshwater inland fishing in the state, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday suggested that a policy should be formulated to increase fishing within the continent as well as to make fish seed widely available.
Speaking at a review meeting of Fisheries department at Sahyadri guest house here, he said that it is necessary to increase the business of fisheries within the continent and advocated the need of making fish seed available for freshwater fisheries.
He further suggested that it is essential to encourage and provide funds to fish seed processers in the state in this regard.Along with that, a comprehensive policy should be prepared regarding marine fishing and for the fishing business in the dam areas, the Chief Minister said. With the central government having accorded the status of agribusiness to the fisheries, its benefits should be passed on to the fisheries professionals in the state as per the rules, he added.
