Thanks to the efforts of MLA Manda Mhatre, fishermen from various villages in Navi Mumbai, including Diwale, Karave, Sarasole, Vashi, Diva, and Airoli, who were affected by the ongoing construction of the Nhava Sheva Shivdi Sea-link project by the MMRDA, have begun receiving their compensation. A meeting was organized at MLA Manda Mhatre’s residence to discuss the compensation process, which was attended by the affected fishermen.

MLA Manda Mhatre informed that, based on the survey conducted by MMRDA, eligible fishermen have started receiving their compensation. Currently, a total of 132 fishermen from Diwale, Belapur, Karave, Sarasole, Vashi, Diva, and Airoli have received the first installment of compensation through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), directly deposited into their bank accounts.

She assured that the remaining fishermen, whose compensation process is pending due to missing documents, will have their documents verified as soon as possible. She emphasized that none of the fishermen from the Koli community will be deprived of their rightful compensation. MLA Manda Mhatre has been advocating for the compensation of fishermen affected by the Nhava Sheva Shivdi Sea-link project for the past four years. The Koli community residing in Diwale, Belapur, Karave, Sarasole, Vashi, Diva, and Airoli villages in Navi Mumbai rely on fishing for their livelihood, and it is her responsibility as a public representative to ensure their well-being.

MLA Manda Mhatre expressed her joy that the fishermen have started receiving their compensation, bringing a sense of happiness to the community. The meeting was attended by District President Ramchandra Gharat, MLA Manda Mhatre, General Secretary Dr. Rajesh Patil, Yuva Datta Ghangale, President of Dolkar Fishermen’s Association Pandurang Koli, President of Khandewale Fishermen’s Association Neelkanth Koli, President of Fagewale Fishermen’s Association Ananta Bose, along with numerous members of the Koli community.
