A distressing event unfolded in Mumbai as two fishermen succumbed and another remained in critical condition following the gas leak in a storage chamber of a fishing boat. The devastating incident transpired at the New Fish Jetty during the retrieval of fish from the vessel Anjani Putra, at around 11 am.

Boat had returned to coast around 2 am

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Latkar, the boat had returned to the coast around 2 am, and it is suspected that gas had originated as a result of fish decomposition within the storage chamber. The volatile gas took a severe toll on the workers, initiating a dire sequence of events.

Fishermen who descended into storage chamber lost consciousness

Tragically, a worker who descended into the storage chamber lost consciousness, triggering a chain reaction. Five other individuals who entered the confined space also succumbed to unconsciousness. Swiftly responding to the situation, all affected fishermen were promptly rushed to the government-operated J J Hospital for urgent medical attention.
