Hoards of Sardines were found dead near the shore at Navapur-Dandi Creek in Palghar district on Sunday night. The Akhil Maharashtra Machchimar Kriti Samiti in a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde who is also the state environment minister have asked for an in-depth inquiry.
“It is possible that the chemical effluents from the nearby MIDC estate are being released into the sea without being treated resulting in the death of the fish in such large numbers. These fish are consumed by locals and this poses a health hazard for the residents,” reads the letter.
