The civic body on Friday said that they have completed all the work related to the establishment of the much-awaited fish market in Shahaganj and that it will be operational in the next three to four days. The market is likely to be inaugrated on October 3 by the city’s guardian minister Ramdas Kadam. After visiting the facility on Friday, municipal commissioner Om Prakash Bokaria said that the market will be open for buyers in a couple of days. He also said that the civic body will aoon allot particular blocks to various fish sellers, before beginning the facility. The project is being carried out through special funding from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), who is contributing 90% of the total project cost of Rs 1.84 crore. For the past three years, the civic body has been planning to streamline city’s unorganised fish markets and bring all the sellers under one roof. The project, which was initiated in February 2013 by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), was supposed to be completed by March 2014. Initially, the AMC took more than expected time to complete the work of the building. In March 2015, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) denied power connection to the facility. It took more than a year for the AMC to get a connection. After the main structure was in place, the civic body officials had to deal with reluctant fish sellers, who relented after much deliberation.
