The government of Maldives remains committed to work closely with the government of Sri Lanka, in the areas of mutual importance, particularly in the fisheries sector, says Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.
The Maldivian minister said this in a Twitter post following a meeting with Niranjan Deva Aditya, the Presidential Envoy and Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka. During the call that took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, FM Shahid welcomed the Presidential Envoy to the Maldives.
He went on to shed light on the long history of bilateral relations and the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries. FM Shahid went on to highlight that both countries have been crucial to each other’s development in the past. With this, he assured that the government of Maldives will continue to support Sri Lanka in their efforts for economic revitalization.
The Maldivian minister and the Presidential Envoy also reiterated their mutual commitment to continue working closely together, bilaterally and in the international fora on issues of mutual importance. The meeting was attended by Foreign Secretary Ahmed Latheef, Secretary of Economic Cooperation Dr. Hussain Niyaz, Bilateral Secretary Dr. Hala Hameed, Additional Secretary Mohamed Faisal and Director Moomina Ibrahim.
The Presidential Envoy and Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka is currently undertaking an official visit to the Maldives. He arrived in the Maldives on Tuesday and is scheduled to conclude his visit on Saturday.
