The most significant contributor to the Maldives’ export growth was skipjack tuna, which accounted for 21,302.1 metric tonnes of fish exports during the period. The country also exported 3,072.8 metric tonnes of yellowfin tuna and 2,561.6 metric tonnes of canned and poached fish.
This positive trend is supported by the increase in international fish prices, which have risen significantly compared to the previous year. In March 2023, the international market price of skipjack tuna was $29.3 per kg, compared to $25.4 per kg in March 2022.
