Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has advised fishermen in the Maldives to register with the government’s registry before October 1.

In an announcement made last Monday, the Ministry stated that to expedite the completion of the National Registry of Fishermen, it will begin the fisheries license renewal process on October 1, ensuring all crew members of licensed vessels are registered during that time.

The Ministry has advised fishing vessel captains, owners, and operators to ensure that their crew members are registered by the deadline.

To facilitate this process, the government launched a mobile application called “Keyolhu” in February, making registration easy for fishermen.

Additionally, teams from the ministry are visiting various islands across the country to compile the national registry and provide information to fishermen.

According to the Ministry, the information collected through the registry will help implement policies by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, allowing for the design of development projects in the fisheries sector and ensuring adequate services for fishermen are provided.
