Salam Rohendro Singh, a progressive fish farmer from Laphupat Tera in Imphal West District, Manipur, has been invited to share his expertise with young civil service probationers attending the 99th Foundation Course at the prestigious Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie.

The three-month Foundation Course, set to begin on August 26, 2024, and conclude on November 29, 2024, will see Rohendro Singh interact with civil servants from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Forest Service (IFoS), Central Services, as well as officers from the Royal Bhutan Service. His session on “Agriculture and Allied Sectors” is scheduled for the last week of October 2024 and will last for 90 minutes.

This is not the first time Rohendro Singh has been invited to LBSNAA. In 2023, he attended two interactive sessions at the academy, where he shared his journey as a transformative fish farmer in Manipur.

Rohendro Singh is a pioneer in Sareng (Wallago attu) culture in Manipur. He recently made headlines for successfully breeding Meitei Sareng at his farm pond using a blend of Indigenous Technical Knowledge (ITK) and scientific methods. His efforts have placed him among the top Sareng breeders in the state.

In 2021, Rohendro Singh won first prize at the State Level Fish Fair, organized by the Department of Fisheries, Manipur, for producing the highest quantity of fish. He also received the Haricharan Das Best Progressive Fish Farmer Award from the College of Fisheries, Lembucherra, Tripura, in 2022.

In 2023, he was conferred the ICAR-Farmer Innovative Award in Umiam, Meghalaya, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the revival of Sareng in Manipur.
