Two fishermen in Mexico shocked their entire town Sunday after returning to shore with a 2,000-pound great white shark.

The 20ft-long fish was caught in a net left overnight by the men in the Sea of Cortez but to their perhaps relief, found already dead.

‘We were amazed and immediately realized that we had a huge, dead, great white shark, and then we thought what are we going to do?’ one of the two men identified as Guadalupe told Pisces Sportfishing.

The skiff belonging to Guadalupe and Baltazar, the second fisherman identified, was just barely large enough to hold the creature at 22ft but unable to power itself back to shore with the extra weight.

Radioing for help, they were towed in.

The distance to shore, however, approximated at two miles, took an hour to make.

Once reaching dry land 50 people greeted their boat, helping to drag the massive fish on shore.

After photos and a weighing, it was said to have fed the entire town.

‘We have seen a lot of sharks, in fact this is an area known for sharks, but we have never seen anything like his,’ one of the two men said.

Because the precise species of fish is endangered and found so close to shore, officials with the Environmental Protection Agency are investigating.

The shark’s cause of death was not reported if known.
