A development project will be drawn and implemented for Kyunsu Township in Taninthayi Region in the coming budget year, said Regional Chief Minister Dr Le Le Maw. The chief minister made the promise during a recent meeting with administrators, departmental officials and local people from Myeik Township. “Last week, I visited Kyunsu Township. I went to about four villages. Unbelievably, I witnessed very poor development there. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Some schools have collapsed. They are seaside villages, not inland villages. As there is little progress, I will plan to draw a development project in the coming fiscal year. I will also do it for years to come by visiting more villages with less development, said the chief minister. The regional government is reportedly paying debts sought under the previous government. A local resident pointed out depletion of fish resources for local fishermen and reckless fishing by large fishing vessels as the main reason for poverty in villages in Kyunsu Township. “Over 30 fishing boats come here at about 3am and leave in the morning after catching all the fish. Gradually, those fishing villages are getting into trouble. It is time to take action against corrupt businesspeople, said the local resident during the meeting with the chief minister. According to local sources, Kyunsu township has large fish stock but it is subjected to reckless fishing by unscrupulous businesspersons.
