Integrated Coastal Management Committee held its 3rd meeting at the Forest Department in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday morning.

During the meeting, Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yee stressed that the coastline of Myanmar is over 2,800 Kilometer in length and it possess 1/5 of the whole ecosystem of the Bay of Bengal.

Likewise, it could support variety of environmental services and create more job opportunities for the development of the country. He also called for taking effective action to tackle the cases of loss and damage of biodiversity and water resources.

After that, Vice Chairman of the Committee, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung stressed the needs to set the Blue Economy Development policy for the respective sectors, to implement the businesses which have less impact on the coastal resources and to establish information management system and research centers.

He also urged to implement no fishing areas, to prevent illegal fishing, to improve fish farming business, to carry out sea turtle preservation works and to make cooperative efforts between related committee members and departments for harmonious implementation of country’s economic development and environmental conservation.

Later, the Secretary of Committee and its members reported on the work implementations and difficulties and future processes.
