A Myanmar migrant working on a fishing boat was shot at sea by his Thai employer on April 22, according to volunteers working for migrant rights. “We heard a migrant workers had been shot by his employer on a fishing boat in Phang Nga Province, said volunteer Saw Maung. Maung Maung Htay was reportedly shot while he slept about three hours after leaving the port, said activist Zaw Min Oo. Sources said the worker and his employer quarrelled at a warehouse before they went out to sea. The wounded worker was being treated in a hospital in the province, sources said. The same fishing boat caught fire in the engine room in April 2015 causing two deaths and some injuries. No compensation had so far been received.
