A ship loaded with rice bags hit two fishing boats in Pauktaw Township in Rakhine State on January 15, leaving two fishermen dead, one injured and three others missing. The injured man was sent to Sittwe People’s Hospital. The ship collided with two fishing boats carrying 24 fishermen and one fishing boat sank. A relative of the injured man said: “Visibility is very low due to heavy snow. Hla Than Chay got the serious injury to his thigh. The fishing boat’s helmsman died. A police officer from Sittwe Myoma Police Station said: “According to the investigation, a ship was found near Sittwe jetty. We have arrested the ship’s helmsman as some evidence was found on the ship. Police have filed a suit against the ship’s helmsman in Pauktaw Township. The junior helmsman was piloting the ship when the accident occurred. The authority is still searching for the missing people.
