The Upper House approved on Wednesday a proposal submitted by MP Khin Myo Win to raise tax from the fishing and related industries for the sustainable development of the Myanmar Fishery. He suggested that fish and other seafood should be monitored at check points, and then be permitted to be transported to factories in Myanmar, or abroad, on a Free On Board (FOB) or Cost Insurance and Freight (CIF) taxation basis. The deputy minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Hla Kyaw said that the ministry had discovered that a lot of fish exports were undocumented, with no reporting and no checks. “With the cooperation of French Development Agency, we conducted feasibility study this year for the installation of a vessel-monitoring system [and a] monitoring control and surveillance project together with Department of Fisheries. We are going to build a big jetty for loading and unloading fishery-related cargo. But, we need technology, investment and time, Hla Kyaw said.
