Lebanon: Fishermen Monday briefly blocked a vital road that leads to the northern Arida border crossing in protest of Syria’s aggression against Lebanese fishing boats.

The protesters reoponed the main Akkar road around 11 a.m. after nearly four hours.

They decried what they claimed was “daily shooting by the Syrian navy at fishing boats in Lebanese territorial waters since the uprising against Syrian President Bashar Assad began in March 2011.

In one incident in March 2013, a Syrian navy gunboat fired at a Lebanese fishing boat off the northern coast of Arida, wounding a fisherman.
