A group in Pakistan has called for an amicable resolution to the perennial issue of detention by Pakistan and India of fishermen from the two neighbours and urged authorities to ensure that those detained are released forthwith on humanitarian grounds.

“There should be a `no arrest fishermen` policy drafted and signed between the two countries under which no fishermen would be arrested while fishing,” Dawn quoted Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) group as saying Sunday.

There are 247 Pakistani fishermen lodged in Indian jails, the report added.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan government ordered the release of 172 Indian fishermen lodged in District Jail Malir in the port city of Karachi. The fishermen were caught violating the sea boundary of Pakistan.
