There were no tsunami threats to Hawaii after two large earthquakes, one near Indonesia and another near the Solomon Islands, struck within minutes of each other on Thursday.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the Indonesian quake was initially measured at a magnitude of 6.9, but was later changed to 6.6. It occurred 18 miles north of Sorong, Indonesia at around 5:55 a.m. HST. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami threat to Hawaii.
Minutes later, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck an area approximately 61 miles southeast of Honiara in the Solomon Islands. However, the PTWC did not issue any kind of alerts regarding a tsunami threat.
There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.
