The deep depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm called Kyant. This is the first cyclone of the season to develop in the Bay of Bengal area, and is likely to hit Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coast by this weekend. Kyant, which means crocodile in the Mon language that is spoken in parts of Myanmar and Thailand, is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rain along the coast of both Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Some districts in Andhra Pradesh, such as Kakinada, Ongole and Nellore, may face a flood-like situation.
