A tragic incident unfolded in Odisha’s Deogarh district on Tuesday when a fisherman lost his life due to illegal fishing practices. The accident occurred at the Rengali reservoir near Bhulkabahal village, under the Kundeigola police limits.
According to police sources, three fishermen, who had been using dynamites instead of nets to catch fish for some time, set off the explosive near their boat. The dynamite detonated prematurely before reaching the water, causing fatal injuries to one of the fishermen, identified as Khyamanidhi Dhibar from Asananali village under Deogarh police limits.
The two surviving fishermen escaped unhurt and were subsequently detained by cops for questioning. Fire services personnel recovered the deceased’s body from the dam, which was then sent for post-mortem examination. Local police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation into the incident.
